A red wine full of colour, flavour and freshness, free – the first of the Fattoria’s wines – from regulations, conceived by Piero Lo Franco. In its blend, the most rustic and typical Tuscan grape is balanced by the soft, elegant aromas of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2021 season was again characterised by extreme weather conditions: a few peaks of heat above 40 °C and sparse summer rain, which when it fell was heavy and concentrated in short periods of time. The luxuriant foliage protected the grapes in both cases. Alcoholic fermentation took place at lower temperatures than usual (23-24 °C) thanks to the richness of the grapes and ease of extraction.
Tasting – Colour: intense, dense ruby red that turns towards garnet as it ages in the bottle. The nose: a seductive bouquet of violets accompanied by aromas of blackberries and blueberries, with hints of plums and cherry jam. In the mouth: rich in tannins, with a notable palate. Sapid but austere and dry while young, it becomes softer over the years… it’s not afraid of lengthy ageing, quite the contrary!
Wine and Food Pairing – A companion for Tuscan first courses, from soups to pappardelle with ragu, but also for risotto with porcini mushrooms, roast red meats, grilled cheeses, flavoursome cold cuts, medium mature cheese and – why not? – for a simple panino with cured ham or Capocollo…
