The Viallino Verdicchio grapes grow not far from the Adriatic Sea, on the hills around Ancona. And in the glass you can “sense” an echo of the sea’s salinity and freshness, together with citrussy and fruity aromas that are never sweet. The 2023 season was difficult, punctuated by violent thunderstorms and torrential rain, luckily without any hail. At the end of summer, however, the bunches harvested were nevertheless healthy and full of juice, with a good balance between sugar and acidity. Only the “cream” of the grape must was selected to be used for fermentation. During the following months it aged with a few, selected, fine lees, which were then removed before bottling.
Tasting – Colour: straw-yellow with greenish highlights. The nose: a typical citrussy note of pink grapefruit; the bouquet opens up further with aromas of wildflowers and a tropical hint. In the mouth: harmonious, dry but rounded, with a good acidic edge that gives freshness.
Wine and Food Pairing – It happily accompanies fish and vegetable dishes, and it’s perfect with Adriatic cuisine, with seafood pasta recipes such as linguine with clams, with shellfish prepared in any way, leek risotto or fusilli with pesto. It’s also excellent with grilled vegetables, goat’s milk cheese and other soft cheeses, as well as with a white asparagus pizza.
