In 2022 the weather really put the grapevines to the test due to the scorching summer. The brief but intense thunderstorms at the end of the season, however, not only didn’t affect the grapes’ ripening, but actually helped their development. The firm, fragrant Sangiovese and Canaiolo grapes provided structure and freshness, while the Cabernet grapes, which were smaller and had thick skins, contributed with colour and complexity. After natural fermentation, without the addition of sulphites, the period of ageing began with two years in wood, followed by another three months in the bottle. The result is a forthright, full-bodied and harmonious Chianti Riserva, which reveals its terroir on the nose and palate.
Tasting – Colour: deep ruby red with garnet highlights. The nose: aromas of ripe cherry and forest fruits, spicy tinges of black pepper and a slight balsamic note. In the mouth: dry and full-bodied, with noticeable but rounded tannins, excellent freshness, and a long, warm finish.
Wine and Food Pairing – It goes well with traditional Tuscan dishes that are as “robust” as it is itself, pappardelle with porcini mushrooms or with wild boar sauce, barbecued meats, jugged hare, and mature cheeses... but it’s also perfect on its own, as a “meditation wine”, accompanied by a roaring fire or a good book.
