This intense red wine is “born” not far from Mount Amiata, an ancient volcano situated near to the Brunello di Montalcino area, and it has a temperament as “fiery” as the land from which it comes. The 2024 season was ideal for Sangiovese thanks to the rainfall in early September, before the harvest. The Merlot grapes were picked slightly overripe, and the Cabernet and Syrah were fresh and well-balanced. The four varieties gave rise to a blend with excellent acidity and structure. At the winery, after macerating separately and undergoing light but frequent pumping over (to extract colour and phenolic compounds), alcoholic and malolactic fermentation took place. Afterwards, as per tradition, the base wines aged for 12 months in wood: 30 and 50 hl Slavonian oak casks for the Sangiovese, used barriques and tonneaux for the others. At this point they were blended and, after waiting for one last month, the LeccioMoro was ready to be bottled!
Tasting – Colour: intense, dense ruby red. The nose: forest fruits and Marasca cherry stand out, with a spicy note of black pepper and a hint of vanilla. In the mouth: the tannic sensation is distinct, full and consistent on the palate, with a very persistent aftertaste.
Wine and Food Pairing – It’s a robust wine that loves flavours of a similar calibre: pappardelle with wild boar sauce (or Sugo Finto), grilled red meats, roast game, or beef “tagliata” with porcini mushrooms. And it’s also partial to cold cuts and mature cheeses. However, its straightforward elegance can suffice all by itself, so it is also perfect on its own or simply accompanied by a chat with your friends.
