Ingredients for 4 people:5 large, ripe oranges5-6 tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil salta pinch of pepper, according to taste
This isn’t really a recipe as such, but a different and tasty way of serving oranges in order to encourage children (and even some adults!) to eat them. Peel the oranges, taking care to remove the peel, pith and outer membrane, and then cut them into thick slices. Arrange them on a serving dish and dress them with the olive oil and a little salt (and pepper, but only for “grownups”).
In the past, in our area, children considered this recipe a delicious treat (packaged juices and snacks didn’t exist!) and it was eaten accompanied by a nice slice of homemade bread.
You can serve these “arance condite” as an appetizer or amuse-bouche (adding, if you like, a few drops of balsamic vinegar and some thin flakes of Parmigiano), or as an unusual side dish with jugged or roast game and poultry. They also make a wonderful, light, sweet-savoury dessert.
