Ingredients for 6 people:800 g red onions 6 slices homemade-style bread , fairly thinly sliced½ glass Red Wine Vinegar2 tbsp sugar6 tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil salt and pepper
Peel and wash the onions, then cut them into large pieces. Put them in a heavy-bottomed saucepan with the olive oil and cook over a very low heat for about half an hour. Add the vinegar and sugar, and season with salt and pepper; stir well and continue cooking, still over a low heat, for 30 minutes. If you see that the onions are drying out too much, add a little water, stirring frequently. Toast the slices of bread (on both sides), distribute the pieces of onion on them and add a drizzle of oil on each slice.
