“One of the best vintages in recent decades, for an important wine from La Vialla, could only result in one of the best bottles of Casal Duro ever...”, that’s how Marco Cervellera, the Fattoria’s oenologist, defined this wine in its 2015 “guise”. “For this reason, it can be enjoyed when drunk young, but above all it can be kept and left to mature in the bottle, where, even after many years, it will reveal what a great wine it is.”
Tasting – Colour: intense ruby red tending towards garnet, dark and scarcely reflective (it’s unfiltered). The nose: sweet tobacco, vanilla, black pepper, liquorice root, smoky, these are the principal notes of an exceptional range of aromas, which broadens with every “swirl” in the glass. In the mouth: potent and velvety, full-bodied and well-balanced, majestic and silky; the adjectives will “go further” with slow bottle ageing, which will heighten the silkiness of the dense, intense tannins, and make it possible to appreciate their progressive softening.
Wine and Food Pairing – A glass of Casal Duro makes great company on its own, but it’s also perfect with Tuscan “peposo” (a special, very flavoursome stew), jugged hare, pappardelle with wild boar sauce, or polenta with porcini mushrooms and pecorino cheese fondue. It’s also excellent with mature cheeses
