Olive blend: 80% Ogliarola Garganica, 20% Coratina
In the Gargano (in northern Puglia) the Fattoria has been looking after two olive groves for 15 years now. In this area the 2021 season was favourable. Last year’s lower yield was compensated for by a good, average sized crop – this alternation is typical of olive trees: one year the harvest is abundant, the next it’s scarcer – thanks to excellent flowering in May and a long, hot, dry summer.
The “Olio Novo” La Malva 2021
A well-balanced oil, mellow right from the start, pleasant, moderately “bitter” and slightly tingly in the throat at the end, especially when freshly pressed. It’s golden yellow and, on the nose, immediately reveals the typical notes of olives and olive leaves, mountain cardoon, almond, walnut, dried alfalfa flowers and, in the finish, a spicy sensation of pepper. Last year its mellowness was put to the test – a pleasant surprise – in a “sweet” recipe, a novelty, olive oil ice cream ….but imaginative dishes apart, La Malva extra virgin olive oil is ideal for grilled fish, for both summer and winter recipes (also those typical to Puglia), vegetable “caponata”, stuffed tomatoes, broccoli pesto, and a drizzle is always good on cooked or raw vegetables, or on a mixed grill.
